Wine Coolers

Description 

An outstanding pair of Georgian octagonal brass bound mahogany wine coolers also known as gardes de vin.  Which are recorded in George Hepplewhite’s The Cabinet Maker and Upholstery’s 1st Edition 1788, 2nd Edition 1789 and 3rd Edition 1794.  Each with four brass bands on a tapered body, brass carrying handles to the sides.  The lidded top to reveal a lead lined interior.  The whole is supported on a carved fluted frieze, with four reeded tapering legs, with square cup castors on barrelled wheels.  It is very rare to find such a pair of wine coolers today.
