Chest on chest

Description 

An early 18th century walnut, on oak and deal, chest in wonderful condition, having a beautiful color, with original brasses and locks.  The upper part having 3 small drawers over 3 long graduated drawers, the lower part also consists of 3 long graduated drawers.  Each of these long drawer fronts is divided by vertical herringbone  banding of light walnut which also runs round the drawers.

The feet replaced correctly to the period, modelled on the original pattern. The chest is signed by William Palleday, who is part of a long established London furniture making family. Lit : Early Georgian Furniture, A Bowett p14 & 118.
